A $250 million budget[2]
Following the huge success of the original movie, Cameron, who had mentioned in 2006 that he would want to develop sequels to Avatar if it was successful, announced the first two sequels in 2010, with The Way of Water aiming for a 2014 date. [5] [6] To give the team more time to work on the scripting, preproduction, and visual effects, three further sequels (to the original one) plus the need to build new technology to film performance capture sequences underwater, a feat never previously done, caused substantial delays. [7] Principal photography began on August 15, 2017, in Manhattan Beach, California, and continued until September 25, 2017, in New Zealand, along with Avatar 3. The filming has over. The most recent postponement of the movie's theatrical premiere is scheduled on July 23, 2020. [8] The first sequel, presently scheduled for release on December 16, 2022, will be followed by three more films, scheduled for release on December 20, 2024, December 18, 2026, and December 22, 2028, respectively[9]. [10] [11] It is one of the most costly movies ever created, with a $250 million budget.
